French 19th Century confit pot
These wonderfully decorative jars or clay pots which were created to store Confit du Canard originate in France and date from the early 1800s. They characteristically have the classic yellow coloured glaze but sometimes can be found in green, and often would have had one or two handles. It is typical for these type of pots to be cracked and repaired with damaged glaze, this is completely normal and adds to their charm. Often it is possible to see grooves within the pots where the Confit has been scraped out of them over decades of use.
Strong and robust, they have survived the passage of time in kitchens, gardens and barns all over France and are often found as abandoned garden decorations.
Perfect empty as a sculptural and beautifully decorative item or filled with dried flowers. These vessels are not waterproof; you would need to insert a waterproof liner if you intend to use with fresh flowers.
