    Maison Bengal

After years spent living in Dhaka, Bangladesh and working in the aid industry, Sheenagh Day returned to the UK in 2004 and founded Maison Bengal. Her aim was to provide a direct route to market for the beautiful products made by some of the poorest and most marginalised communities that she had come across who practiced traditional artisanal skills of weaving and basket making. With close collaboration from local fair trade organisations Maison Bengal uses only locally grown materials such as jute and hogla (local sea-grass) in the production of their products which immeasurably improve the lives of the craftspeople that make them. These products are all handmade and as such there may be very slight variations in size and colour.
